Oh yes, we have a lot of jokes by translating German proverbs word to word into English, like "Here goes the mail off". Have a look at: https://www.pinterest.de/nayaksz/spr%C3%BCche/

BG, Micha

We have to laugh, when reading all the translations. Especially to the Czech language. But bear in mind, that the translation from and to non English languages usually goes through the English. So there is translation German -> English -> Czech.

And that's exactly the problem we face when writing our blog in English. There are many specific phrases in each language, which cannot be transferred only by blunt translation of word for word, because they lose their meaning. Especially when it comes to proverbs. E.g. in Czech we have a proverb: A goose which was hit will respond.
But in English it is: A guilty conscience is a self-accuser. So we can imagine how it must be strange or funny if we just translate it without thinking.

It might be funny, but on the other side it makes confusion and it some people doesn't weigh in that you are not a native speaker, and they are catching you on words. Which sometimes leads to irritated opinion exchange, just because we do not properly understand each other.

Welt=verden. Herr durch Mann ersetzt. Mann=mand und dann ein genitiv-s: verdensmand.
Ganz einfach.

Ein Weltmann also.

Also ein Světový muž besitzt keine Sandalen / nevlastní sandály /ejer ikke sandaler / does not own sandals.

I am very reluctant to get advice on style. The last time I did this, I asked a stylist if it was better to wear sandals with or without socks. His answer was: "The Lord of the World doesn't have such shoes!"

A man, who belongs to the international high society or jet set. Or a man like James Bond, but not necessary with the license to kill.

Wolfgang

I consider it like cephalus. I write in German. Afterwards I'll do the translation from Google. Uncorrected.

I consider the offer from Vlasta and Michaela to be very interesting and definitely profitable. Of course, every style consultation is always guided by personal taste and provides suggestions that do not have to be the absolute measure for a safe clothing style.

I own so many dresses and skirts and tops that I only have to do laundry once a year. That's why it's really difficult for me to choose three outfits that I would then present for style advice.

I myself like to play with different styles. I have a wide range of clothes to choose from for every occasion. Advice would only be of use to me at times. The day after tomorrow, a different style variant would be popular with me and the good tips from yesterday would be obsolete.

My girl-friend just discovered yesterday that my dress choices generally suit her tastes. She is happy that my textile preferences are what they are. And nothing else. This is one of the most important things you can achieve with your clothing style.

I have not yet completed the Vlasta and Michaela poll. I hope, however, that some will take advantage of this offer. Some could certainly benefit from it.

Sincerly
Wolfgang

Well, I think live is complicated enough. We should'nt invent a set of alternative rules, after we got rid of rules like "a gentleman never shows his skin beside the face and the hands".

Best,
Micha

Zitat von: Vastla @www.gender-blender.com
And what rules do we consider important?
Dress the right size
Dress appropriately for your age
Dress appropriately for the occasion
Dress appropriately the type and proportions of your figure
Focus on posture
Less is sometimes more
Use the correct color combinations
Wear the right accessories
If you go with a partner, "get along"
Pay attention to personal hygiene (trimmed nails, shaved feet, regular visit to the hairdresser)

Hallo zusammen,

2. Auch was "Haltung" betrifft, was meinst Du?

Hello Michaela and Vastla,

I think your ten rules, putting emphasize on aesthetics, are on spot, every one of them. By you yourself dressing so much in accordance with them, both of you are signalizing exquisite style and are thus looking so right and natural to me. More men should definitely benefit by following your advice.
Even if I'm for a more manly appearance than is Vastla, I so much enjoy your gender-bender blog.

Best regards
Gregor

Hi Michaela & Vlasta,

additionally to your list I like to mention:

Get dressed for yourself.

I agree with most of the points in your list, although we may discuss the statements (what is meant by the statements).

Especially in point two do I see some risk of age discrimination*. For example: "You are to old to wear this mini skirt."

Greetings
Hajo
*I´m 65 and don´t like to dress me like old men used to do because society expects it. I'm a sensitive at this point.

Hi all fashion freedom lovers,

we just published new post on our blog, where we are talking about the obstacles almost every men encounter if he decide to not flow with the current, but free himself from comformity. We were thinking for several months if and how we might help and encourage other man, and we came with the idea, that we will publish some basic rules, every woman knows, but barely any men does. And also we would like to offer some help with the aplication of those rules with evaluation of the pictures and some kind of consultation how to improve (That is mostly Michaelas part. ).

It is for free, the only condition we have, that we will publish it, because we want the rest of the community to profit from it as well, and do not want to do it just on one to one basis. And also, we would do it in our spare time.

We have prepared a poll, where we would like to find out, if there is any interest about it. Please let us know either here or answering the poll, what you think about it.

Thank you in advance for any thoughts

Vlasta & Michaela

We hope that english is not a problem...
